Breast Reduction

Do you have excessively large breasts that cause physical discomfort and make you feel self conscious about your appearance? Millions of women in the United States suffer from the same problem, and more than 83,000 of them underwent breast reduction surgery last year to relieve the problems associated with large breasts, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Kennesaw breast reduction surgeons Marcus H. Crawford and Steven Bailey have performed many reduction mammaplasty procedures during their careers, producing a more proportionate breast size and youthful breast shape in our patients.

Breast Reduction Procedure

Depending on the breast reduction technique that we perform during your surgery, breast fat, tissue, and skin may be removed from the breasts. Prior to surgery, our surgeons will discuss all options and choose the technique that will offer the best aesthetic result.

Depending on the technique used and the amount of breast tissue resected, breast reduction surgery can often be covered by health insurance. The final decision for coverage of your surgery will depend on the details of your specific insurance plan, but the surgeons and staff at Crawford Plastic Surgery have extensive experience with coverage options for this particular surgery.

Breast Reduction Recovery

On the day of your surgery, you can expect to spend two to four hours in the operating room under general anesthesia. During the final step of surgery, the surgeon will close all incisions and apply dressing to the breasts to promote healing and reduce the risk of infection. All sutures used during the surgery will dissolve and will not require removal after you have recovered. Most of our Atlanta breast reduction patients have recovered approximately one week following surgery. Exercise and other arduous activities can be resumed in three to four weeks. Visible results of surgery will be noticeable immediately, but the best results are typically seen two to three months later when all swelling has subsided and the incisions have healed. The symptoms experienced by the patient prior to surgery are usually resolved very soon after breast reduction surgery.
