Mommy Makeover

When it comes to ranking important milestones in a mother's life, childbirth comes in at the top of the list. But sadly, for some mothers, the joy of the experience may be diminished if the effects of pregnancy produce unwanted changes on the breasts and body. The most common problems that result from pregnancy are deflation of the breasts, sagging breasts, overly large breasts, excess skin on the stomach, stretch marks in the lower abdomen, and extra fat on certain areas of the body. At Crawford Plastic Surgery in Kennesaw, Dr. Marcus Crawford and Dr. Steven Bailey perform mommy makeover procedures to address the cosmetic problems that affect the body after pregnancy.

Breast Lift

The effect that pregnancy has on your breasts will depend on your genetics, the size of the baby, the amount of weigh that you gain, and the number of children that you have had. If your breasts increase significantly in size while you are pregnant, and then they shrink back down to their pre-pregnancy size, the breast skin may end up loose and wrinkled, resulting in the need for breast lift surgery. Patients who are happy with the volume of breast tissue they possess in a bra, but don’t like the way their breasts look when they are not in a bra can often be treated with breast lift alone.  For patients who feel that their breasts are too low AND lack volume, breast lift surgery can be combined with breast augmentation.  This approach allows our surgeons to enhance the volume of the breast with breast implants while removing some unwanted skin on the breasts.

Breast Augmentation

For some lucky women, the breasts return to their pre-pregnancy size after breastfeeding has ceased. In others, the breasts deflate, losing their round and perky shape. In these cases, breast implants must be placed to add fullness to the breasts, and may satisfactorily restore some lift to the breasts. However, if you have developed severe sagging of the breasts, a breast lift will need be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation.

Breast Reduction

While some women lose breast tissue after pregnancy, there are others that actually gain extra breast tissue that doesn't go away, even after they have lost all of your baby weight. If your breasts feel too large and cumbersome after pregnancy, breast reduction can be performed to reduce their size.

Tummy Tuck

If breast lift is the most common procedure that is performed on the breasts after pregnancy, then the tummy tuck is the most popular treatment that is performed on the body. This is because all women experience significant stretching of the abdominal skin while they are pregnant. Ideally, the skin will contract after your baby is born. Unfortunately, the skin does not always return to its pre-pregnancy state. Instead, you may be left with some degree of loose, hanging skin. The tummy tuck procedure allows our surgeons to remove your excess skin and fat, tighten underlying abdominal muscles, and smooth out your stomach skin to produce a more ideal aesthetic.

Liposuction

The weight and extra fat that you gain during pregnancy is mostly concentrated in the stomach area, although it can also settle on the hips and thighs. When this excess fat is deposited on your problem areas, it can make it that much more difficult to get back in shape after pregnancy. At Crawford Plastic Surgery, our surgeons can perform liposuction surgery on your areas of concern to help you lose the last of your pregnancy weight.
