Facelift

A number of men and women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are increasingly conscious of the effects of the aging process. For some patients, the signs of aging affect the eyes and brows; in others, it is most noticeable in the lower and middle sections of the face. When the aging process affects this area, the skin on the jowls and neck becomes more lax, the smile lines deepen, and the cheeks begin to look hollowed out. Kennesaw facelift surgeons Marcus Crawford and Steven Bailey perform the rhytidectomy procedure to minimize these signs of aging and recapture the natural beauty of your youth. Contact our practice today to find out if you are a good candidate for this procedure.

Facelift Candidates

Facelift surgery is a safe and effective procedure that produces dramatic results in suitable candidates. In order to be a good candidate for treatment, you must:

  • Have facial jowling and excess skin on the face and neck
  • Not smoke
  • Be in good health

Facelift Surgery

There are several variations of the facelift procedure that can be performed on patients. The mini facelift technique, which involves shorter incisions and less skin removal, is ideal for patients that have mild to moderate skin laxity; a full facelift can be performed on patients that need more extensive facial skin tightening. Our surgeons will formulate your surgical plan based on a thorough examination of your skin.

Just prior to undergoing surgery, you will be put under general anesthesia for the duration of the procedure. Once you are sedated, Dr. Crawford or Dr. Bailey will create an incision, or series of incisions, that are inconspicuously placed along the hairline. The length and placement of the incisions will depend on your facial structure and the extent of treatment that is needed. Next, the surgeon will reposition underlying facial muscles and fatty tissue, and then re-drape the skin over the face, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Facelift Recovery

Most of our facelift patients find that the recovery period after surgery is much shorter and less painful than they were expecting. Although you may experience some pain, numbness, bruising, and swelling after surgery, these side effects can be easily managed with pain medication and a few days of rest. Within a week, you should be able to start wearing makeup again and return to most normal activities. However, you should avoid exposing your face to the sun, wind, or other harsh elements for about a month after surgery.
